Bass Fishing Tips From Certified Bassmaster Brandon Card
Give a man a fish, feed him for a day. Teach him how to fish, feed him for a lifetime. With that Maimonides quote in mind, I figured it’s about time I learned how to fish for something a little more respectable than goldfish.
I sought out the help of the top experts in the realm, so I teamed with I LOVE NEW YORK to get out to the gorgeous Thousand Islands in upstate New York and experience the 2015 Bassmaster Elite Series Tournament on the St. Lawrence River. I hopped on board with pro Bassmaster Brandon Card, who showed me the ropes.
We went fishing with Brandon Card, who was the 2012 Bassmasters Rookie of the Year and this year was named No. 8 on their list of Top 30 Under 30.
The sport of fishing continues to grow across the country, including very rapidly at the collegiate level -- especially at the SEC schools where Card was part of the Kentucky team. While the Kentucky basketball players aren’t able to earn a dime even though they’re the centerpiece of a billion dollar revenue generating sport, it’s interesting to note that the NCAA is not involved in bass fishing, which makes it the only collegiate sport where the athletes can win money.
